Lettera inviata da Villafranca il 29 aprile 1840. Casaretto riepiloga il materiale naturalistico mandato sin dall’anno scorso, in tre successive spedizioni, di cui non ha più avuto notizia. Spera non sia andato disperso. Ha ancora con sé circa 300 piante di Bahia, Pernambuco e Gibilterra, raccolte durante il ritorno, e alcuni minerali acquistati a Rio di cui riferirà a Sismonda.
