Giovanni Battista Gussone (Villamaina (Av), 08-02-1787 - Napoli, 14-01-1866). Francesco I di Borbone, quando era ancora erede al trono del Regno delle Due Sicilie, invitò il Gussone. a Palermo per costruire e dirigere un Orto Botanico a Boccadifalco. Nel 1825 si trasferì a Napoli per curare i Parchi Reali. Scrisse opere fondamentali sulla flora sicula.
